Siddhant Dhingra is a final-year DPhil candidate in Organic Chemistry at the University of Oxford, working at the Ineos Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research under Prof. Christopher J. Schofield. His research focuses on 2-oxoglutarate–dependent oxygenases, spanning mechanistic enzymology, protein engineering, structural biology, and directed evolution. Siddhant’s doctoral work has advanced fundamental understanding of the ethylene-forming enzyme (PsEFE) and plant detoxification enzymes such as HIS1/OsHSL1, with applications in biocatalysis, sustainable chemistry, and agricultural biotechnology.
Alongside his research, Siddhant has held several leadership roles at Oxford, serving as President of the MCR at St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford, where he has contributed to academic community-building, welfare initiatives, and college representation. His interests extend to peptide-based drug discovery and ultra-high-throughput screening technologies using mRNA display, areas he plans to pursue further as an incoming postdoctoral researcher at the National University of Singapore.
Supported by the Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation, Siddhant aims to build a multidisciplinary scientific career that integrates enzymology, chemical biology, and translational research to address global challenges in health, sustainability, and biotechnology.
