Darshan Shah is an Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Bombay, where he heads the ‘BiOME’ lab established to further research and teaching in Biomechanics, Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Engineering. With a strong background in engineering design, coupled with an avid interest in human anatomy, he delves into how joints of the body function. In close collaboration with surgeons, clinicians and the medical industry, he uses in-vivo (human), in-vitro (cadaveric) and in-silico (computational) techniques to understand native joint biomechanics and biomechanical alterations following pathology and surgical reconstructions. Darshan is an alumnus of IIT Bombay, where he graduated with a dual degree (BTech, MTech) in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to pursue further studies in Bioengineering at Imperial College London, UK, where he completed a second Masters (MSc), a PhD and a year of postdoctoral research. Her academic research interests include critical perspectives on human rights, decolonial and anti-racist pedagogy, and the intersection between human rights and peacebuilding. Before joining Columbia Law School, Reddy worked with lawyers, non-profits, and academic institutions in India to prevent and respond to identity-based discrimination through litigation, legislative reform, grassroots activism, and public education. She is the Founder & Director of Schools of Equality, a non-profit organization in India that runs activity-based programs in schools with the aim to shift social attitudes that perpetuate gender-based violence and other forms of identity-based discrimination. His long-term goal is to start an Education-technology company which will work on AI systems to reduce human tutors, in the education. During High School, he was a recipient of the Bronze medal in Asian Physics Olympiad and a Gold Medal in the International Junior Science Olympiad.
