Preksha Jain

Preksha is currently a first-year doctoral student in Public Policy at New York University where she plans to explore the potential of technology in accelerating poverty alleviation. Most recently, she spent two years working as an Economist in the South Asia Region’s Chief Economist’s Office (SARCE) at the World Bank, where she managed field experiments around gender, informality, and the digital economy. After completing her Masters in International and Development Economics from Yale University in 2020, she worked as a Research Associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology for two years, affiliated with a poverty-alleviation thinktank Innovations for Poverty Action. Here, she worked on projects around gender and social protection in Kenya. She completed her undergraduate studies in Economics from Hans Raj College, Delhi University and also worked in management consulting at Bain & Company for two years before heading to Yale. Preksha’s interest lies in using data to provide innovative solutions to socio-economic problems faced by developing countries, and through her work, she would like to catalyse the shift towards evidence-based policymaking. Outside of academics, she dabbles in music, enjoys coffee, and exploring the outdoors.
