Maithili graduated from National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) with a BA LLB (Hons.) degree in 2017 . She served as a judicial clerk at the Supreme Court of India under Justice DY Chandrachud, where she assisted on landmark cases including among others the right to privacy as a fundamental right under the Indian constitution, the constitutional validity of euthanasia and living wills, the constitutionality of provisions criminalizing homosexuality and adultery, the constitutionality of the Aadhaar project and the Sabarimala Temple entry prohibition. After graduating with an LLM from Harvard Law School in 2020, she was selected as a Harvard Public Service Venture Fund Kaufman Fellow in recognition of her commitment to public interest work. She currently works at the International Service for Human Rights in New York, assisting on strategic litigation and advocacy at the UN headquarters to support human rights defenders.
